Book Review: Barfi Books Volume 1
I was pleased to receive an Advanced Reader’s Copy of Barfi Books Volume 1. Here are my thoughts:
Barfi Books Volume 1 is a delightful anthology that beautifully captures life’s bittersweet moments through an Islamic and cultural lens. Published by the emerging Wilman Fikker Publishing House, this South African initiative is reminiscent of the beloved Chicken Soup for the Soul series but with a unique flavour that feels closer to home.

This collection of feelgood anecdotes, written by (mostly) women, takes readers on an emotional journey. From tales of resilience in the face of trials to moments of pure joy and triumph, these stories resonate deeply. The rich tapestry of voices from diverse walks of life reflects the universal struggles and triumphs of women while showcasing the values of Islam and glimpses of South African Indian culture. The result is a book that feels authentic, relatable, and deeply inspiring.
The subtitle, “A bite of life’s sweetness,” perfectly encapsulates the essence of this book. Some stories moved me to tears, while others had me laughing out loud – a testament to the anthology’s ability to connect with readers on multiple emotional levels. The high-quality editing ensures that each story shines, meeting international standards and elevating the overall reading experience.
What excites me most is the prospect of this becoming an annual series. Barfi Books Volume 1 is a keepsake, and I look forward to collecting future volumes. Knowing that contributors are reimbursed and that submissions are open for Volume 2 further cements my admiration for this initiative – it not only uplifts readers but also supports and values the voices of women writers.
Barfi Books Volume 1 is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration, comfort, and a reminder of the sweetness life has to offer. Whether you’re curled up with a cup of tea or sharing stories with loved ones, this book promises to be a heartwarming companion. Don’t miss out on this treasure!
