Sons of the Ummah
On the morning of Sunday, April 14, 2024, our community was shaken by the tragic news of the untimely passing of four youngsters, aged around 20, in a motor vehicle accident in Johannesburg.
As I awoke to this heartbreaking news, my thoughts were consumed by empathy for the four sets of grieving parents, and their families, who now bear the weight of this unimaginable loss.
I contemplated on the fragility of life and I found a morsel of solace in the certainty of death, and that it is predetermined for each of us.
The accident served as a reminder to me that we will meet our death even if we have to rush towards it.
We will meet our death even if we have to swerve to find it (another accident that claimed a young life last week)
We will meet our death even if we have to travel to a war zone to catch it
We will meet our death even if it is in the deepest depths of the ocean and we have to pay $250,000 for it (the Titanic submarine mission)
Because death is predetermined.
I penned my thoughts in this heartfelt poem.
Sons of the Ummah
by Waheeda Joosab
My heart goes out to four families today,
And four mothers who birthed
Four sons two decades ago...
My heart goes out to four families today,
And four fathers who must carry their sons
And bury them deep today.
My heart goes out to four families today
For I am a mother too.
A mother of sons who hold my dreams,
A mother of sons being trained for the world.
My heart goes out to four families today,
Four families who have
Lost a beacon of hope,
Lost a rope to their dreams,
Lost a man in the world.
To Him we belong and to Him we return.
May Allah SWT grant the marhoomeen maghfirat, fill their qabrs with noor and grant them the highest stages in Jannah. Aameen
May Allah SWT grant aafiyah and sabr to the grieving families. Aameen
May Allah SWT grant ease to the plight of the Palestinians and rectify their issues. Aameen
